The North Brooklyn Community Boathouse is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to education and enabling safe, responsible human-powered boating on and environmental stewardship of our waterways.
Since its founding in 2010, NBCB has delivered educational programs to hundreds of students and community groups and, with regular free public paddles, put thousands of people – many of whom had never paddled a boat – on the water. NBCB partners with local orgs like Newtown Creek Alliance to advocate for access to the waterways and to develop and deliver environmental education programs. NBCB also offers workshops in marine safety, trip-leading, paddling skills, nautical crafts (including boat building, paddle carving and knots) and arts and activities inspired by and engaged with the extraordinary waterways around North Brooklyn.
Members, at every level of skill and experience, can register for kayak and canoe trips and safety/skills training led by our volunteer ACA-certified Trip Leaders. Qualified paddlers may take out boats independently. As a virtually all-volunteer run organization we rely on and expect active members to pitch in and contribute to these programs and our fundraising.
Join us and get on the water!
